Yoga mats are available to hire for $2, all we ask is that you wipe them down and return them to storage when you’re done

Can I share class passes?

We’d love you to bring friends to get downward dawg with you, however class passes are valid for use with one person only. Don’t worry, we give you plenty of time to use them!

Do all classes play hip hop?

At Vital Beat, we love hip hop. But we also love most styles of music as long as it brings a smile to our faces and a wiggle to our hips! In our classes you will find hip hop, RnB, soul, jazz, funk, reggae & roots, trip hop, international beats, and popular radio tracks, as well as acoustic covers and modern mantras. We also have dedication classes  and every Friday is Old Skool Fridays – where we play the RnB & Hip Hop classics you grew up with!

We are always building music playlists! So you can always expect different playlists, depending on the class, the day, the teacher, and the vibe of the room.

Do you have an Introductory Offer?

We certainly do. Each new student is eligible for 21 days of unlimited yoga for just $39. This enables you to try out different teachers & different yoga styles and really find your yogi-groove!

Our Intro Offer is available once to every student, so even if you come as a Casual and then fall in love (because lets face it, yoga & hip hop is amazing) then you are still eligible to join our Intro Offer.

I am pregnant / I have a small child, what is available for me?

Congratulations!

All of our yoga classes offer modifications for pregnancy, however as your belly begins to grow you may find that you gravitate towards Soul Train Yin, and Slow Jamz, as these classes move at a pace that makes it easier to manoeuvre into pregnancy-friendly variations.

We also offer Prenatal Yoga at Vital Beat. Our Prenatal Yoga runs as a 5 week course, and includes discussions on empowered birth, and is suitable for both regular yogi’s and absolute newbies.

Already had your baby? There are two more options that you might love! We offer a Mums & Bubs course  with a focus on gentle postnatal recovery, suitable for babies up to 1 year (or when they become mobile). We also have a creche! Creche runs on select days of the week – check our timetable to see when its available, and is suitable from ages 6 months and up.

I’m a Yoga Newbie / I’m not very flexible, Can I still do these classes?

We welcome all fitness levels and body types to our mats. We believe yoga is meant to be challenging but fun, so we cultivate an environment where you only need to go as far as your body is ready. We offer modifications for varying fitness levels and to accommodate body limitations. That being said, our Hip Hop classes are more fast paced (they’re known for getting sweaty!) and may be more suitable if you have an existing degree of fitness, whereas our Slow Jams is more accessible to absolute beginners. And Soul Train? That’s the escapism yoga for everyone! We encourage you to try them all, and pace yourself as you need to!

We also offer Foundational Flowz at both studio locations, a beginners specific class where we slow it right down, and break down some of the most common poses & flows, with plenty of opportunities for workshopping or questions.

Is it safe to practice everyday?

Yoga helps you to develop body awareness. If your practice is feeling good, come as much as you like! Our classes can be demanding on the body, depending on the style or teacher you choose, and it makes your muscles work, so be sure to pay attention to the needs of you body and pull back if you need to.

What do I need?

We recommend booking your classes online to avoid missing out – as numbers are strictly limited. Bring yo’ fine self, a sense of humour, and an open mind. We ask you not to judge yourself or your progress, only to be in the moment of movement and music.

Please bring a mat if you have one (we also have them for hire) and you may like to bring a water bottle.

Please arrive 10 minutes before class commences to check in, set up your mat, chat to the teacher, and chill out. The front door to the studio will be locked apon commencement of class.

What should I wear?

Aim for comfortable gym-style clothing that allows you to bend and stretch a multitude of ways. Generally most activewear is suitable. We do ask that you remove your shoes and sock in the reception area before entering the class. It keeps the floor nice and tidy for lying on, and we practice yoga barefoot!

What’s the difference between hip hop, slow jams, and soul train?

The primary difference is the speed at which we move through our postures. ‘Hip Hop’ uses a flow style of yoga (Vinyasa), that’s known to be more active to generate an internal fire. ‘Slow Jams’ takes it down a notch, with longer holds, and more space between poses, giving teachers a chance to give more individual adjustments and feedback. Our candlelit ‘Soul Train’ classes involve much more floor series, and extended holds that reach beyond the muscles, to treat our ligaments and fascia and the areas of deep tension in the body. And then of course each class style has music to suit!

We recommend all of them! You can check out more class descriptions here

Why do your classes have music? Do we have to dance? Is it still relaxing?

While our Slow Jamz and Soul Train classes are typically more chill than Hip Hop, ALL of our classes finish with savasana and a gently guided relaxation to ease you back into the world. Our music playlists are carefully curated to match the energy and the mood of the class. You would be surprised how many of our students step off the mat and have no recollection of the music played, but they were grooving along during the class. We like to call the music our positive distraction. Sometimes we need a little help to leave the outside world behind us when we step onto the mat. When you’re singing your lungs out in the car, or carving up the dancefloor, are you over-thinking? Unlikely, because you’re in the moment. That’s what we want from yoga, to be present. And we love that music helps you get there!

There is no dancing required in our yoga classes. However if you get carried away with the beat during your postures, who are we to stop you?! 😉
